Forskarparken – a future multifunctional space for recreation and relaxation

Medicon Village

In the summer of 2026, the municipality of Lund will start the transformation of Forskarparken adjacent to Scheeletorget at Medicon Village. Instead of the current grove of trees north of Sparta, the area will be developed into a multifunctional space for both activities and recreational relaxation. This transformation, along with the construction of new housing south of Scheeletorget, aims to make the area a vibrant space even beyond office hours.

To the west, the park will feature areas for volleyball, street basketball, and functional training, seamlessly transitioning into lush pathways with grassy areas for social gatherings. The park will be connected by a continuous boardwalk running its entire length.

Forskarparken will be utilised both above and below ground. To adapt to climate conditions and enhance the capacity to manage stormwater and future heavy rainfall, an extensive pipe system will be installed beneath the eastern part of the park, towards Scheelevägen and Scheeletorget. This system, combined with a surface-level basin, will replace the current stormwater reservoir in the park.
