Learnings from Almedalen

Medicon Village

Almedalen, Sweden's most vibrant annual meeting place for politicians, organizations, and businesses, has been taking place in Visby from Tuesday to today (Friday). Petter Hartman, CEO of Medicon Village Innovation, was present for panel participation and both formal and informal meetings with the aim of contributing to the development of Swedish life science in general and Medicon Village in particular.

3 quick takes on this year's Almedalen experience:

  • No groundbreaking life science reports or other significant news were released.
  • There were fewer visitors and events (around 2,100) compared to recent years. However, there were still many attendees at various public seminars related to life science.
  • Gathering places such as Vårdarenan Almedalen and Folkhälsodalen hosted ongoing life science events by AbbVie, GSK, Merck, MSD, Pfizer, Roche, Sanofi, Takeda, Skåne University Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital, and others. Other key life science stakeholders like AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, LIF (the research-based pharmaceutical industry in Sweden), Lund University, and SwedenBIO had their own event arenas.
