From summer break to strategic growth – Medicon Village is back on track!

Medicon Village

From today, most of us are back on track, with children in school and summer housing put on hold. Spring was tough for some of us, with global political challenges, uncertain funding, and other factors making things more unpredictable than usual. But here comes a new semester – with new opportunities!

At Medicon Village, we look forward to continuing to foster innovation and advance collaboration to support life science research and business for our members, the community, and the innovation district we’re part of. We do this by acting as the hub for life science in our region, with Medicon Village Innovation’s 3C focus as an important driver: Capital, Competence, and Commercialisation.

Here are 20 of the initiatives we at Medicon Village Innovation have on our to do list for this autumn, to keep us busy:

CAPITAL

  • Medicon Village Investor Panel (MVIP) – direct access to Nordic VCs, family offices, and growth funds, plus strategic feedback, peer learning, and trust-based relationships. MVIP stands out as more than matchmaking – it’s a long-term platform that helps companies refine their value proposition, strengthen governance, and secure growth capital.
  • Matchmaking – we collaborate with investment parties to have investor meetings on site and in other locations.
  • Partnering and exhibiting – at leading life science congresses, including BIO-Europe and NLSDays, to promote members and attract investment.
  • Project funding – research pilot funding is part of projects we engage in like HALRIC.
  • NOME – the Novo Nordisk Foundation-backed Nordic Mentor Network for Entrepreneurship.
  • Partner funding – on site, we collaborate with key partners like SmiLe Venture Hub, LU Innovation, LU Ventures, and Almi Invest in providing targeted funding, early-stage coaching, and connections to investor networks.
  • Scouting – we collaborate with Big Pharma and others to facilitate funding of early stage ventures.
  • Donations – Medicon Village is owned by a non-profit foundation founded by the entrepreneur Mats Paulsson, and surpluses from operations are continuously donated to academic research (close to SEK 270 million between 2011 and 2024).

COMPETENCE

  • Matchmaking – connecting jobseekers and employers, from LinkedIn promotions to the annual Career Day Life Science – a full day of networking, insights, and opportunities, and more.
  • Training – operator training programmes in partnership with Komvux Malmö, the South Swedish Chamber of Commerce, Medeon, and regional industry partners.
  • Inspiring future talent – project-based coaching and career talks for students at Lund’s upper secondary school Katedralskolan (read more).
  • Accelerator – 10xHealth is our joint scale-up programme with SmiLe Venture Hub.
  • Professional networks – platforms for experienced professionals to exchange strategic knowledge, mentor peers, and stay updated.
  • International talent – through the EU Interreg financed Cross-Border Talent Bridge initiative, we help attract and integrate global expertise with cross-border career events, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Community vibe – by combining after works with art exhibitions, Family Days, and more, we strive to make our science park into a vibrant meeting point, tailored for those who want more than just four walls.

COMMERCIALISATION

  • Organising more than a hundred signature events each year, hosted by companies and organisations promoting their services but also addressing challenges and opportunities for life science companies.
  • Partnering and exhibiting at leading life science congresses, including The Future of Swedish & Danish Life Science and Medinnovation, to promote members.
  • Engaging in collaborative projects with international partners such as universities and research institutions, including Health Cities, and more.
  • Hosting delegation visits to showcase our community, members, and the innovation district we call home.
  • Promoting our life science park in different channels, like on LinkedIn, where we are more active with more followers than most other Nordic science parks.
