Quick new member take: 3 questions to Calibra
We warmly welcome Calibra as a new member of our life science park, located in B402! We asked their Evert Håkansson, Metrology & Quality Manager, to answer three key questions to share insights into how they aim to make a difference in our community and the industry in our region:
How can the life science community in southern Sweden benefit from your membership at Medicon Village?
We have over 40 years of experience in applied metrology from the Metrology and Calibration Department at the MedTech company Gambro/Baxter in Lund. After the company decided to move the R&D function to other countries, we took the opportunity to use our knowledge and experience to offer our calibration services at Medicon Village.
Sooner or later, most start-up companies need to prove that their products or services fulfil certain stated acceptance criteria. We understand the queries and difficulties that can arise when developing a new product and an unforeseen calibration need is suddenly revealed. We have also shared the stress during a product certification at a test house, where all calibration documents related to the measuring equipment used during verification and validation are scrutinised to ensure that all calibrations were performed correctly and on time.
With a mindset from a regulatory-controlled environment, we provide calibration and support of instruments throughout the entire product lifecycle, from research and development to daily production, quality control, and field service. We always strive to deliver our calibration services with a short lead time.
We also offer metrology support and training in uncertainty analysis, measurement decision risk analysis, calibration interval analysis, etc.
What is your perspective on the opportunities for the Swedish life science industry to strengthen its international relations?
Metrology is an essential part of the life science industry. Given Sweden's strong standing in life sciences, there are significant opportunities to leverage metrology to strengthen its international relations. Sweden can actively participate in and promote the harmonisation of metrological standards within the life science sector, facilitating smoother trade, regulatory compliance, and international collaborations. Sweden can highlight its advanced metrology infrastructure and expertise as a key enabler for the quality and reliability of its life science offerings.
What are your major challenges in the coming year to meet market demands and trends?
We assume that the majority of our new customers know quite well what to measure and why. However, it is not always known that, according to regulatory requirements, the measuring equipment to be used must be suitable for its intended purposes and capable of producing valid results. This means that the chosen measuring equipment not only has to be accurate enough but also be calibrated with traceability to a national or international standard or reference.
One of our major challenges will be to maintain a short lead time for all of our calibration services.
