Quick New Member Take: 3 Questions to Hæger & Carlsson

We warmly welcome Hæger & Carlsson Executive Search and Interim as a new member of our life science park. We asked their Senior Recruitment Manager, Alexander Johansson, to answer three key questions and share insights into how they aim to make a difference in our community and the industry in our region.
Why have Hæger & Carlsson chosen to join Medicon Village?
Hæger & Carlsson has successfully completed over 180 CEO/C-level and management team recruitments, as well as interim solutions across the Nordics over the past five years. In 2024 alone, we carried out 106 recruitments and interim placements, including 12 CEO recruitments and interim solutions. This makes us one of the leading partners for executive search within life sciences in the Nordics.
Several of these 106 recruitments and interim solutions were conducted in Lund and Southern Sweden. We are therefore delighted to return to Medicon Village, embracing a more prominent role in Southern Sweden’s life science landscape. For us, Medicon Village is the natural and by far the best platform to drive this growth from.
What are Hæger & Carlsson’s key objectives for your operations in the Nordics?
Great and exciting ideas arise when people meet. We believe in bringing together individuals and organisations that share similar values and objectives. That is why Hæger & Carlsson was founded in 2015 – and this year, we celebrate our 10th anniversary.
We see an increasing need for creative solutions to fill gaps in teams – whether through interim placements or traditional recruitment.
With offices in Stockholm, Lund, and Copenhagen, and a rapidly expanding interim business, we strive to create the conditions necessary for individuals to succeed – ultimately contributing to the success of the companies we support. We are committed to being an active and engaged part of the Nordic life science industry, a region of utmost importance to us. This dynamic ecosystem is home to exceptional talent with multidisciplinary backgrounds across pharma, biotech, diagnostics, and medtech.
At Hæger & Carlsson, we know life science from the inside. We follow a well-defined process and leverage a vast network – one that we continuously aim to expand.
What are your business’s major challenges for the upcoming year to meet market demand and trends?
One of the biggest challenges our customers face is securing funding – even for the most brilliant ideas. Many of them are still in the development phase and rely on external financing. Without a doubt, this remains one of the greatest hurdles in our industry.
Another challenge is the relatively low influx of new talent into the life science sector. Understandably, smaller companies often require candidates with at least a few years of industry experience. At the same time, many top talents without prior industry experience struggle to find opportunities in Sweden and are forced to seek jobs abroad. With no new Pharmacia or AstraZeneca offering entry points into the industry, the lack of large-scale talent incubators is becoming increasingly apparent.
AI is a dominant trend across all industries, and life science is no exception. We actively embrace it and seek to leverage its potential. However, few things compare to the value of in-person meetings. Our door is always open—why not stop by for a coffee? You’ll find us on the second floor of The Spark. We look forward to meeting you!
