Skåne leads the way towards the future of healthcare with precision medicine

Precision medicine is pivotal in ensuring Sweden’s healthcare system remains innovative and world-class. On 15 January, 200 attendees gathered at Medicon Village in Lund to discuss Skåne’s progress in this transformative field and address the challenges that must be overcome for the region to become a leader in precision medicine.
The event, organised by Medicon Village and Roche Sweden, highlighted key advancements, including the establishment of a Precision Medicine Centre in Skåne. This initiative, a collaboration between Lund University and Region Skåne, brings together clinical and academic expertise to enhance healthcare’s ability to prevent and treat diseases more effectively.
Speakers emphasised that precision medicine is about delivering equitable, high-quality care. It ensures that the right intervention reaches the right patient at the right time. However, realising this vision also requires new funding models, innovative workflows, and advanced skills within the healthcare system.
– The large turnout demonstrates the strong interest in the future of healthcare, and it’s clear that Skåne has excellent potential to take a leadership role in Sweden’s implementation of precision medicine, said Petter Hartman, CEO of Medicon Village Innovation and moderator for the event.
While Skåne has made significant strides in adopting precision medicine, the seminar also revealed that critical challenges remain. Collaboration—between industry, academia, healthcare, and international partners—will be a decisive factor for success. Medicon Village and Roche Sweden are committed to fostering dialogue and knowledge sharing to support further advancements in this field.
