The 2nd Lund Spring Symposium – Enabling Novel Therapeutical Principles
Given the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the fully booked inaugural symposium in 2023, the organisers are arranging a new symposium on 20-22 May 2025.
The organiser, Professor Lars Grundemar, at Lund University and AGB Pharma, together with Guest Professor Mikael Dolsten, Lund University and Pfizer, and Guest Professor Claes Wahlestedt, Lund University and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will once again gather high-profile international and local researchers at this prestigious symposium in Lund. The event aims to highlight the impact of Pharmacology as a cross-functional discipline for the 21st century and to provide a forum for fostering collaborations across academia and industry.
– Last time, we were fortunate enough to host a range of top notch researchers, for instance, Drew Weissmann later received a Nobel Prize, and Bob Langer, Professor at MIT and founder of Moderna. The symposium is highlightingthe importance of combining basic research with clinical applications and entrepreneurship for the successful development of novel therapeutic principles, says Lars Grundemar.
A highlight of the programme that makes this symposium special is the recognition of several scientific pioneers with prominent awards:
- The Bengt Samuelsson Award to Professor Katherine High at Rockefeller University, NY, NY, USA for her work in the field of gene therapy.
- The Distinguished Service Award to Professors Jens Juul Holst and Stephen O’Rahilly. Holst co-discovered the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), while O’Rahilly has made significant contributions to the understanding of genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying human disorders of energy balance and metabolism.
- The Lund Spring Symposium Innovator Award to Dr. Clive Meanwell, Population Health Partners, USA who has had a distinguished career with leading roles in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
- The in Memory of Arvid Carlsson Award to Professor Craig Mello, University of Massachusetts, MA, USA for his discovery, with Andrew Fire, of RNA interference (RNAi).
- The Sune Bergström Award to Professor Aviv Regev, currently Genentech, CA, USA for her pioneering scientific discoveries, particularly in the fields of single-cell genomics and systems biology.
- The Therapeutic Achievement Award to Professor Kevan Shokat, University of California, San Francisco, CA, USA for his pioneering work in the field of chemical biology/genetics.
At this exclusive symposium for scientists and entrepreneurs, high-profile international and local researchers will deliver cutting-edge research presentations in an engaging and interactive forum designed to broaden participants’ horizons. A common theme among the presenters is their inspirational and transformative research, providing the foundation for novel therapeutic principles. The list of speakers includes:
