Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026 – now launched

Medicon Village

Medicon Village has now launched the Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026, our annual report taking the pulse of the life science sector in Skåne. The report provides a data-driven overview of the regional ecosystem, combining company statistics with insights from life science executives and interviews with companies representing Skåne’s key life science hubs.

This year’s report highlights a region with strong foundations for innovation and growth. Skåne is home to 670+ life science companies and organisations, employing more than 7,500 professionals. The sector is characterised by a strong research and development profile, with 236 companies engaged in R&D, and Skåne-based companies contribute 152 drug assets to the Swedish biopharma pipeline.

To mark the launch, more than 100 attendees joined us at Medicon Village for a presentation of the report’s key findings and a panel discussion reflecting different parts of Skåne’s life science ecosystem. Moderated by Sarah Lidé, Deputy CEO of Medicon Village Innovation, the panel featured Fredrik Tiberg, CEO of Camurus; Yvonne Lundberg Giwercman, Founder and CEO of Dx4Life; Lena Berdén, Site Director at PolyPeptide in Malmö; and Christer Spégel, EMEA Translational Science R&D Director at Kenvue.

Together, the discussion captured the breadth of Skåne’s life science strengths – from Lund’s research-driven innovation environment and Malmö’s manufacturing capabilities to northwest Skåne’s established industry base. The conversation also explored the challenges and opportunities facing companies as they move from innovation to commercialisation, including access to capital, specialised competences, international growth, and the importance of strong regional networks.

A recurring theme throughout both the report and the launch discussion was that Skåne’s competitiveness depends on more than scientific excellence alone. To turn ideas into patient and societal benefit, companies need access to capital, talent, infrastructure, and partnerships that support growth across the full life science value chain.

The Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026 is produced by Medicon Village and draws on data from Vinnova, Insight Machine and SwedenBIO, supplemented by analysis from Medicon Village. This year’s report also includes interviews with Camurus, Dx4Life, PolyPeptide and Kenvue, offering perspectives from companies that reflect the diversity and strength of the regional ecosystem.
