Career Day: a catalytic event for students, early-career researchers, and companies
The Career Day, held at Medicon Village on 4 December, once again proved to be a catalytic event for students, early-career researchers, and companies eager to engage with the next generation of life science talent. Co-organised by Medicon Village and the Careers Centre at the Faculty of Medicine (Lund University), and funded by Region Skåne and the Cross-border Talent Bridge project (an EU Interreg initiative), the event highlighted the region’s thriving life science ecosystem and the numerous pathways available to those aspiring to build their careers within it.
Engaging seminars and inspiring talks
The morning began with an engaging line-up of speakers who shared insights on navigating the life science job market and preparing for future challenges. Sarah Lidé from Medicon Village, Erik Lindell from Region Skåne, and Anna Falk from Lund University discussed the competencies essential for thriving in the evolving industry landscape.
Pernilla Agardh from Agardh Recruitment & Consulting provided practical advice on professional development, while Hela Galvis from Switch to Sweden and Jane Fisher from AdvanSci Research Consulting delivered tips and strategies for navigating the Swedish job market and making a successful transition. Complementing these discussions, Lisa Andersson from Lunds Kommun and Per Mayerhofer from Jobbsprånget explored life in Sweden and strategies for securing employment via job internships.
Exhibitions and networking opportunities
The 16 exhibitors offered attendees a chance to connect directly with leading companies and organisations in the life sciences sector, while the AI-powered matchmaking facilitated meaningful connections between candidates and exhibitors.
Parallel afternoon sessions focused on practical career support, including CV reviews and LinkedIn profile optimisation. The exhibition booths and the Science After Work, hosted by Medicon Village Supporting Partner Potter Clarkson, served as an open forum for attendees to connect with organisations, explore opportunities, and engage in enriching discussions.
Looking ahead
This year’s Career Day venue buzzed with energy as a full house of enthusiastic job seekers eagerly connected, explored opportunities, and took their next career steps. It was inspiring to witness such a vibrant mix of talent and ambition, reinforcing the event’s reputation as a unique platform offering insights, opportunities, and connections within the flourishing life science industry. As the event grows each year, it continues to strengthen Medicon Valley’s reputation as a life science hub for innovation and talent attraction.
