Fler behandlingsalternativ – en förutsättning för individanpassad vård och Life Science satsning
On Wednesday 24 June, we organise Life Science-dagen in a large tent at Hamnplan, in collaboration with AbbVie, AstraZeneca, Chiesi, Lund University, Novo Nordisk, Roche and SmiLe Venture Hub.
At 16.00-17.00, there will be a seminar in Swedish on ”Fler behandlingsalternativ – en förutsättning för individanpassad vård och Life Science satsning”, hosted by Chiesi Pharma. Please note that the program and its speakers/panelists might be updated before it takes place – updated program in the official program for Almedalsveckan.
Seminar focus
More than 30% of primary care physicians prescribe a different medicine every week than the one they consider most appropriate, due to steering and prescribing controls. A broader range of treatment options can enable more personalised asthma and COPD care. What risks arise from limited treatment choices, and how could this impact the life science sector?
A recently conducted market survey among 893 primary care physicians shows that the majority view recommendation lists as a useful support tool. However, more than 30% of these doctors state that every week they prescribe a different medicine than the one they themselves consider most appropriate, due to steering and prescribing controls. It is important that recommendation lists ensure that patients with asthma and COPD have access to multiple treatment options, thereby enabling more personalised care and better-controlled disease management.
Welcome to a seminar where patients, experts, and decision-makers come together to discuss the risk of Sweden ending up in a monopoly-like situation if the regions do not actively prioritise diversity in treatment options. Such a development would not only limit patients’ freedom of choice and affect the quality of care, but also reduce the willingness of life science companies to invest in and conduct research in Sweden, which in the long term could weaken the country’s position as a leading nation for innovation.
Life Science-dagen aims to establish a high-profile, unified forum and meeting point dedicated to life science at Almedalsveckan, in line with our role as the largest life science park in Scandinavia.
During Almedalsveckan 2026 Medicon Village also organise Skånes Innovationsarena on Thursday 25 June.
