QbU Skin barrier and interactions – basic understanding

In this free webinar, our skin expert, Dr. Enamul Mojumdar, introduces us to the basic understanding of skin from the barrier perspectives. The webinar last approximately 20 minutes and there will be time for questions.
Brief description of the webinar
The skin is one of the largest organs in the human body and is vital for our well-being. One of the most important functions of the skin is to maintain barrier protection, which is primarily attributed to the outermost layer of the epidermis the stratum corneum. This webinar will provide an introduction to the properties of both healthy and diseased skin, as well as their complex interactions with the environment and responses to topical applications.
The webinar will also explore the significance of the skin barrier and how its properties can be controlled and examined using a variety of techniques.
I will start by providing an overview of the skin barrier, followed by a discussion of different approaches to study the barrier. Later, I will present several case studies where we used state-of-the-art methods to reveal complex skin interactions with various active ingredients and formulations at the molecular level.
By examining the complex skin interactions with a variety of active ingredients and and external stimuli, such as hydration, pH, UV light using a multi-technique approach, we are able to expand our understanding about skin barrier. This knowledge could have significant impact on topical drug delivery and formulation development in both the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
