Medicon Village sustainability work reverified against ISO 26000
Medicon Village has had its sustainability declaration reverified against ISO 26000 for 2026. The verification highlights tangible progress in areas including energy, mobility and sustainability reporting, confirming the organisation’s long-term commitment to social, environmental and economic sustainability.
Medicon Village was the first science park in Sweden to have its sustainability work verified against ISO 26000, in May 2023. Following a new review of its sustainability work, Medicon Village has now received a reverified sustainability declaration for 2026.
The independent verification highlights a number of results and initiatives, including:
- SEK 19 million in donations to medical research during the previous financial year, through Medicon Village’s ownership model. Surpluses are reinvested in medical research through Mats Paulsson Foundation for Research, Innovation and Community Development.
- Energy savings of 2,100 MWh, twice the target that had been set.
- A 45% reduction in supplied energy through the Ectogrid collaboration with E.ON.
- A Miljöbyggnad Silver certification for Building 407.
- An established mobility hub developed in collaboration with Lundahoj and LKP.
- The launch of the Medicon Village Sustainability Reporting Network, providing a platform for members of the science park and other organisations in the local area to exchange knowledge and experience on sustainability issues in life science.

Sustainability integrated across the organisation
Sustainability is integrated into Medicon Village’s operations and covers areas such as energy, resource efficiency, mobility and collaboration. The organisation’s ownership structure also contributes to its long-term social impact. Mats Paulsson Foundation for Research, Innovation and Community Development reinvests annual surpluses from the operations, as well as returns on the foundation’s capital, in medical research.

A framework for long-term sustainability
ISO 26000 is an international standard providing guidance for organisations on social responsibility. In Sweden, the standard has been complemented by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is used as a framework for organisations to declare their sustainability work. Independent verification of the declaration contributes to greater transparency and credibility.
For Medicon Village, the re-verification is part of a long-term effort to continuously develop its operations and create the conditions for research, innovation and entrepreneurship that contribute to better health and a more sustainable society.
