Barometer Findings: Capital needs are shaped by a more innovation-heavy company base
According to our recently launched Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026, Skåne’s funding profile is broadly similar to the rest of Sweden, but the region shows a slightly stronger reliance on stock market listings and debt financing, reflecting a capital-intensive and R&D-heavy ecosystem.
Some facts to prove it:
- 48% of Skåne respondents identify revenue from sales as one of their three most important funding sources.
- 27% rely on soft funding such as grants, and 21% on investors and venture capital.
- A higher share of Skåne respondents rely on public stock market listings:13% in Skåne, compared with 9% in the rest of Sweden.
- Skåne respondents also report slightly higher reliance on debt financing: 12% in Skåne, compared with 9% nationally.
The Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026 offers a regional deep dive into southern Sweden’s life science sector, based on the national 2026 Life Science Barometer. The report provides a data-driven snapshot of Sweden’s life science industry – a sector that accounts for around 10% of the country’s product exports, making it Sweden’s second-largest export sector and an important driver of innovation and economic growth.
The national edition is produced by SwedenBIO in collaboration with Medicon Village Innovation, Sahlgrenska Science Park, Stockholm Science City Foundation, STUNS Life Science and Citeline.
