Anniversary Celebration at Malmö University

Malmö University is celebrating its 25th year as a higher education institution and its fifth year as a university. Additionally, the oldest faculty, the Faculty of Odontology, is celebrating its 75th anniversary. 2023 truly marks a significant milestone for the university, which annually trains more than 25,000 students. We at Medicon Village were delighted to participate in the festivities and would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Malmö University on this special anniversary.
On 31 August, students, teachers, researchers, and the general public were all invited to celebrate several significant milestones in Malmö University’s history: the fifth anniversary of Malmö University attaining full university status, 25 years of research and education since its founding, and 75 years since the launch of its oldest faculty, the Faculty of Odontology.
The day featured inspiring speeches, engaging activities, and entertaining performances, all of which underscored the pivotal role the university has played in transforming Malmö from an industrial city into a city of knowledge and innovation.
Malmö University itself has developed into an urban, innovative, and international institution that annually educates more than 25,000 students in various professions and academic subjects that contribute to our society. In addition, Malmö University enrols students from homes without a tradition of higher education at a higher extent than the national average.
The University’s research, education, and collaborative efforts are carried out across its five faculties: Health and Society, Culture and Society, Education and Society, Technology and Society, and the Faculty of Odontology. The research profile is characterised by global engagement and a multidisciplinary and challenge-based approach.
Life science research primarily takes place at the Biofilms Research Center for Biointerfaces, a multidisciplinary research centre within materials and life sciences that brings together researchers from three faculties: Health and Society, Odontology, and Technology and Society. The centre’s activities focus on phenomena associated with biofilms, biobarriers, and biointerfaces.
Practical applications of this research include the development of diagnostic approaches, treatment methods, drug formulations, medical implants, and sensors.
Over the years, Malmö University has become a crucial partner for Medicon Village in our efforts to enhance the conditions for a thriving life science innovation ecosystem in Skåne. Through donations from our owner, the Mats Paulsson Foundation for Research, Innovation and Societal Development, surplus from Medicon Village is invested into life science-related research at Malmö University on a yearly basis.
“We want to extend our warmest congratulations to Malmö University and look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration to support research and innovations that contribute to people’s health and better lives,” says Petter Hartman, CEO at Medicon Village Innovation.
