Capital
Efforts to support funding
In today’s challenging market, securing capital is vital for life science innovation. At Medicon Village, we connect promising companies with funding, while building the skills and networks to embed investor readiness early in the start-up journey.
The result is a proven model where innovation and capital work hand-in-hand, giving founders the right conditions to thrive and supporting the full journey from lab to market.
Our key initiatives:
- Medicon Village Investor Panel (MVIP) – direct access to Nordic VCs, family offices, and growth funds, plus strategic feedback, peer learning, and trust-based relationships. MVIP stands out as more than matchmaking – it’s a long-term platform that helps companies refine their value proposition, strengthen governance, and secure growth capital.
- Matchmaking – we collaborate with investment parties to have investor meetings on site and in other locations.
- Partnering and exhibiting – at leading life science congresses, including BIO-Europe and NLSDays, to promote members and attract investment.
- Project funding – research pilot funding is part of projects we engage in like HALRIC.
- NOME – the Novo Nordisk Foundation-backed Nordic Mentor Network for Entrepreneurship.
- Partner funding – on site, we collaborate with key partners like SmiLe Venture Hub, LU Innovation, LU Ventures, and Almi Invest in providing targeted funding, early-stage coaching, and connections to investor networks.
- Scouting – we collaborate with Big Pharma and others to facilitate funding of early stage ventures. One part of that ambition is to attract more Big Pharma as members, and thus have them present in our science park on a daily basis.
- Donations – Medicon Village is owned by a non-profit foundation founded by the entrepreneur Mats Paulsson, and surpluses from operations are continuously donated to academic research (close to SEK 270 million between 2011 and 2024).
In addition to this, we offer coaching, and guidance around funding strategies, embedded in a broader framework that also supports competence-building and commercialisation.
Also, Lund’s public-private ecosystem supports start-ups at every stage – from early grants and workspace to direct investment platforms and scale-up capital.
