Mats Paulsson conferred as Honorary Doctor at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University
Medicon Village founder Mats Paulsson was formally conferred as an Honorary Doctor at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, last Friday during this year’s traditional ceremony at Lund Cathedral. At the same time, he received the symbols of the honorary degree: the doctoral hat, ring, and diploma.
Motivation for the conferment:
Entrepreneur Mats Paulsson is honoured for his longstanding commitment to medical research and for his role in establishing Medicon Village in Lund. Over the years, he has founded three foundations supporting public-benefit initiatives, particularly in the fields of medical research and healthcare.
One of these is the Mats Paulsson Foundation for Research, Innovation and Societal Development, established in 2011. The foundation played a pivotal role in the creation of Medicon Village, which has since evolved into a leading and unique environment for research and business.
By reinvesting profits from Medicon Village’s operations and the foundation’s returns into research, groundbreaking projects in areas such as cancer and neuroscience have been made possible. Altogether, Paulsson’s various foundations have donated nearly a quarter of a billion Swedish kronor to health-promoting research.
– It is a great honour to be named an Honorary Doctor, and it confirms the importance of collaboration. By supporting medical research, we can address health challenges and help improve people’s health and lives, says Mats Paulsson.
An honorary doctorate in medicine is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Faculty of Medicine’s research and education. The faculty board is responsible for selecting each year’s honorary doctors.
