Strategic alliance driving innovation in future healthcare

How can industry, academia, and healthcare providers work together to accelerate innovation in healthcare? This was the central theme when Medicon Village recently brought together AstraZeneca, Lund University School of Economics and Management, and Skåne University Hospital for a steering group meeting within the framework of the Strategic Alliance in Skåne for increased innovation capacity in Swedish life science.
In January, a collaboration agreement was signed between Medicon Village, Skåne University Hospital, Lund University School of Economics and Management, and AstraZeneca. The aim is to strengthen the development of future healthcare, promote collaboration between industry and academia, and build a long-term and sustainable innovation support system in Skåne.
On October 1–2, the partners met in Lund to review the progress of the collaboration. The visit began with a tour of Region Skåne’s ATMP Center, followed by in-depth discussions on ongoing and future joint projects.
Since its launch, eight sub-projects have been identified and are now running continuously. They cover a wide range of areas – from health economics and educational partnerships to the use of health data – all with the shared goal of strengthening regional innovation capacity and Sweden’s global competitiveness in life science.
“This strategic partnership has enabled us to transform ideas into projects much faster than we initially anticipated. The fast pace and success so far are a direct result of the fantastic engagement from every organization involved” says Pelle Axelsson, Healthcare Alliance Lead at AstraZeneca.
“It is inspiring to see the high level of activity and commitment from all parties. This collaboration is a model for how regional joint efforts can strengthen Sweden’s role as a leading life science nation,” says Petter Hartman, CEO of Medicon Village Innovation.
As part of the collaboration agreement, AstraZeneca joined Medicon Village as a member– creating new opportunities for closer interaction between global industry leaders and the many innovative startups at Medicon Village’s campus. Learn more about the collaboration here.
