Northern Lund is growing – significant infrastructure work is underway in the Medicon Village area

Medicon Village

Infrastructure needs to be developed as northern Lund expands around Ideon, Medicon Village, and Brunnshög, the new, inspiring city district where approximately 40,000 people will live and work next to the world-leading research facilities MAX IV and ESS. Therefore, the Municipality of Lund and the Swedish Transport Administration are building a new connection from the E22 motorway to the Ideon/Medicon Village area. This new connection is also a key prerequisite for the plans to build northern Europes most modern hospital area in Lund over the coming years.

The Swedish Transport Administration is also constructing additional lanes on the E22 motorway between the Gastelyckan and Lund North junctions. The additional lanes and new connection will reduce the risk of traffic jams and accidents on the E22. It will also ease access for public transport and commuters.

Construction works in and around Medicon Village

For the new connection from the E22 motorway to the Ideon/Medicon Village area, a new roundabout and street will be built. The work is expected to begin in December 2024 and be completed by spring 2026. Parts of Scheelevägen will be closed while the roundabout is being built. The Swedish Transport Administration plans to start its work on additional lanes on the E22 motorway and the new connection to Ideon/Medicon Village in spring 2025.

Preparations have already begun at the northern end of the Medicon Village area, where fences and district heating pipes are being moved to make room for the upcoming construction works. The northern entrance for motorised vehicles to the Medicon Village area will close on 30 October. Visitors to the northern parking area will be re-routed to the entrance by the goods reception or alternatively via Nytänkargatan.

Medicon Village anticipates years of challenges for traffic and public transport, as well as for cyclists and pedestrians in the neighbourhood. Affected real estate companies in the area are working closely with the municipality and the Swedish Transport Administration to minimise disturbances as the new infrastructure is put in place, enabling the vital expansion of the northern districts of the innovative city of Lund.

Medicon Village recommends that visitors follow orange re-routing signs and plan extra time to reach their destination at our science park. Tenants based in our science park will continuously find related practical information on the Medicon Village intranet, Village Inn.
