Red Glead Discovery settles into its own building
With the inauguration of Medicon Village's new lab building, additional space has become available in other buildings for both current and new members. Contract research organisation Red Glead Discovery, a long-time member, is benefiting from this expansion by bringing all its staff together in B403, instead of being spread across multiple locations.
B403 is becoming the dedicated Red Glead Discovery building. This consolidation will enable them to centralise operations in a space tailored to their current needs while also providing flexibility for future growth.
Founded by seven former AstraZeneca employees, Red Glead Discovery is a fast-growing contract research organisation that has been part of Medicon Village since its inception in 2012. The company has grown to 55 employees, with the ambition to support up to 100 employees in its dedicated building to facilitate its desired growth.
Flexibility and Customised Spaces Go Hand-in-Hand
The adaptation of the building for Red Glead Discovery's needs is occurring in four stages over three years, allowing operations to continue smoothly while spaces are renovated and optimised. The first stage has focused on remodelling the ground-floor area of the 1992-built structure, originally designed as a chemistry lab, to accommodate Red Glead Discovery's departments for ADME & Bioanalysis, Compound Management and NMR.
– With all team members and analytical instruments on the same floor, our daily work will be both more efficient and rewarding. This also facilitates more opportunities for spontaneous social interactions, something that’s crucial in innovation processes, says Jessica Larsson, Director of Enabling Technologies and Infrastructures and team leader for ADME, Compound Management, and NMR.
Flexibility is key, as the company’s future direction will dictate whether additional office or lab space is prioritised. New equipment and more effective and tailored areas are also reducing the need for lab space per employee by 50 percent.
The next stages involve remodelling the lab space on the second floor and add space for larger social area and offices. Completion is expected in 2027.
At Home in Medicon Village
Red Glead Discovery offers a full range of integrated drug discovery services to customers worldwide. Additionally, it conducts R&D projects in collaboration with external partners, including several universities, with some previous projects having spun out into separate companies. The new building offers opportunities for business development, evolving work methods, and enhanced employee well-being.
– We feel at home in Medicon Village. The environment is ideal, with close proximity to customers, partners, and suppliers within the life sciences community in Lund and the region. It’s important for us to bring all employees together in spaces tailored to our needs. From acoustics and inviting fika rooms to functional workstations, we aim to create conditions that make everyone enjoy coming to work. This is especially important as most of our staff work in labs with limited opportunities to work remotely. We feel that we’ve truly found our home in this building, where we can continue developing both skills and staff numbers for years to come, Ann Helen Forsling, CFO, concludes.
