Ingemar D Kristiansen exhibits at Inspira
We welcome Swedish photographer Ingemar D. Kristiansen, presenting a selection of images from the book “Lund’s Eye” on our gallery wall at Inspira in collaboration with his former longtime workplace, Sydsvenskan Lund. His works are on display throughout June and July for you to enjoy.
Barely finished with lower secondary school, Ingemar D Kristiansen stepped into a newspaper editorial office for the first time. Half a century and about a million photographs later, he stepped out. He was Sydsvenskan’s photographer between 1985 and 2022 and, prior to that, from 1972, he worked as a photographer in Lund for Skånska Dagbladet.
The exhibition, which presents a selection of images from the book “Lund’s Eye”, documents a unique photographic achievement. For 50 years, Ingemar D Kristiansen has photographed Lund and its inhabitants from every conceivable angle. The book “Lund’s Eye”, published in 2022 in connection with Ingemar D Kristiansen’s retirement from the Lund editorial office of Sydsvenska Dagbladet, consists of approximately 200 images in various genres from a long and multifaceted career.
– My first thought was to include everything. But then I was advised to focus on Lund. And that was absolutely right. So, these are pictures of Lund, press photos. They are not necessarily the best pictures, the photographer said in an interview ahead of the book’s release.
In 2023, Ingemar D Kristiansen was awarded Lund Municipality’s Culture Prize with the following motivation:
“With his camera lens directed at Lund, he has portrayed the city and, with great sensitivity, placed people at the centre, in both dark and bright moments. With the book ‘Lund’s Eye’, Ingemar demonstrates what a cultural treasure documentary images represent in the story of a city.”
