10XHealth: Module 3 on “People and Governance”

Last Tuesday, together with SmiLe Venture Hub, we organised Module 3 of our accelerator programme 10XHealth. C-level leaders from our seven participating companies joined us to explore ”People and Governance”, expertly guided by Magnhild Owman (SmiLe Venture Hub) and Martin Stenfeldt (Scaling Life Sciences).

Here’s some learnings from expert Martin Stenfeldt after this first module:

What is your reflection after having guided our participating companies in your module?

It was a very powerful and positive experience. The day is a testament to why the offerings from the 10x Health program and other scale-up offerings play a pivotal role in assisting these companies. Going from start-up to scale-up is no small task. The interest the participants showed in learning, their questions and willingness to open up and share their challenges made the module a gratifying and engaging meeting.

Would you please list three major challenges to scale-ups regarding the expert area you represented with your module, and examples of how to deal with them?

  1. Recognise the importance of strong governance as you scale. Clear roles, responsibilities, and processes become essential as your venture grows.
  2. Being aligned in the management team about what matters when it comes to scaling and agree on appropriate actions accordingly.
  3. Recognize each leader’s strengths and shadow sidez, assess their impact on the company, and collaborate to address any gaps or drive growth as needed.

What do you hope the companies participating in the 10XHealth program will do next after this module?

My hope is that the respective leadership will embrace the importance of strategic development, as this becomes increasingly important in the journey from startup to scale-up. Simultaneously they will have to be operational, but the balance must begin to weigh towards a strategic mindset as the complexity of the company increases in all areas.

Over 10 months, these scale-ups is taking part in a tailor-made journey designed to accelerate life science innovation. The programme is powered by Medicon Village Innovation and SmiLe Venture Hub and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
