From innovation to research – this year’s donation process completed

Medicon Village is owned by a non-profit foundation established by entrepreneur Mats Paulsson, with a model designed to create long-term value for life science. Each year, returns on the foundation’s capital together with surplus generated by Medicon Village are reinvested in academic research through donations.

The annual donation process of the Mats Paulsson Foundation for Research, Innovation and Societal Development has now reached its final stage. As in previous years, researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) at Lund University, as well as Malmö University, were invited to apply for funding for academic research within medicine and life science.

The application process began earlier this year and concluded last week when the foundation’s Scientific Council met to review and evaluate this year’s applications. The council consists of Professor Jan Nilsson, Professor Thomas Laurell, Petter Hartman, CEO of Medicon Village Innovation, and Ulrika Ringdahl, CEO of SmiLe Venture Hub.

Based on the Scientific Council’s evaluation, the foundation’s Board will decide on this year’s donation recipients in mid-September. The recipients will then be officially announced and celebrated at the annual Medicon Village Donation Day on 12 November, when researchers, members and partners will come together to learn more about the selected research projects and the science behind them.

Since their establishment, foundations founded by Mats Paulsson have donated approximately SEK 293 million to public-benefit initiatives aimed at advancing human health and improving people’s lives.

The annual donations are an important part of the idea behind Medicon Village: to build a strong environment where research, innovation and entrepreneurship can thrive – while creating value that can be reinvested into the next generation of academic research.
