From insight to impact in life science: Medicon Village amplifies its policy voice
The life science sector is one of Sweden’s most important cornerstone industries and plays a vital role in our shared welfare. As its importance has grown, so too has political attention – not least through the national life science strategy. While this is a step in the right direction, continued and proactive advocacy is essential to ensure strong long-term framework conditions.
Medicon Village has a unique role to play. With 180 companies and 2,800 professionals in our ecosystem, we combine deep sector insight with the ability to mobilise a strong, collective voice. In recent years, we have intensified our efforts to actively influence policy – regionally, nationally and internationally.
By systematically gathering data on industry needs, identifying barriers, and highlighting opportunities for research and innovation, we provide decision-makers with concrete, evidence-based proposals. Our ambition is clear: to strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness as a leading life science nation.
We engage through multiple channels – from participation in strategic advisory groups and policy consultations to hosting dialogues, seminars and public discussions. Together with partners across Sweden, we drive key issues such as stronger incentives for R&D investment, faster implementation of innovation in healthcare, and improved conditions to attract global talent and capital.
As Sweden enters the 2026 election year, our efforts are scaling up further. We are actively engaging with policymakers across party lines and creating platforms for dialogue. In the coming months, this includes parliamentary seminars and a strong presence during Almedalen Week.
A key initiative is Medicon Village Life Science Day on 24 June at Almedalen Week, organised together with industry and academic partners. Our goal is to establish a leading platform for shaping the future of the sector. On 25 June, we will also co-host Skåne Innovation Arena, focusing on regional priorities for growth and innovation.
Are you planning to attend Almedalen Week? Visit us at Hamnplan – and join the conversation on how we can build an even stronger life science Sweden.
