NLSDays – 3 learnings from a great show

NLSDays is our must-attend annual Nordic life science congress for promoting Medicon Village and the innovation district we are part of – complementing the even more international BIO-Europe and Sweden’s democratic meeting place, Almedalsveckan.

This year’s NLSD was another success for the organiser, SwedenBIO, attracting around 1,500 delegates (1,600 last year), with exhibition stands covering 1,040 sqm (1,080 sqm in 2025).

During two days at this premier venue for doing business with Nordic life science companies, we held 28 formal partnering meetings, in addition to numerous informal meetings with people stopping by our stand.

Three reflections we brought home:

  • MEETING POINT – We created a lounge atmosphere with four sofas in our open-sided stand, strategically located next to the entrance and a catering area. The concept was very well received, with plenty of people stopping by to say hello, discuss opportunities or simply take a break. Two of our members – BioInvent and KLIFO – also used our stand to host their own receptions.
  • POSITIONING – We added spotlights to our backdrop – the tallest at the venue – to strengthen our brand presence and give additional visibility to all our members, whose names were displayed on both sides. By livestreaming interviews from our stand to around 90 attendees at our Science for Breakfast in Lund on Tuesday morning, we also brought our community into the NLSD experience, while demonstrating our ambition to extend the reach of the event beyond the venue itself.
  • CONVERSION – Our partnering meetings proved more successful than ever, both in terms of identifying concrete opportunities and actually closing deals. We’re not entirely sure why, but tougher times may be making companies more focused on turning conversations into business.

Our next challenge of this kind will be partnering at BIO-Europe in Cologne, 9-11 November. At the same time, preparations are already in full swing for The Future of Danish & Swedish Life Science on 15 April, together with Life Science Sweden, as well as our participation at Almedalsveckan next summer.
