Skåne joins forces to strengthen its position in Sweden and Europe
How can Skåne strengthen its position as a leading research and innovation region while attracting future investments? This was the central question when more than 60 representatives from industry, academia, healthcare and the innovation ecosystem gathered for a meeting organised by the Research and Innovation Council of Skåne (FIRS).
In an increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape, competition for investment, talent and research funding is intensifying. This makes regional collaboration more important than ever. At the same time, the EU's proposed European Competitiveness Fund presents new opportunities for regions that can leverage their strengths and develop internationally competitive initiatives.
The meeting focused on how Skåne can develop a stronger, shared narrative highlighting the region's unique assets and contributions to Swedish and European competitiveness. Attention was given to its research excellence, innovative life science companies and world-class research infrastructures. Discussions also explored how regional stakeholders can join forces to secure stronger positions ahead of the next generation of European research and innovation investments.
A key takeaway was that Skåne needs to speak with a stronger, more unified voice to succeed in an increasingly competitive international landscape. By connecting academic excellence, industry innovation, healthcare needs and the capabilities of the innovation ecosystem, the region can strengthen its international appeal and attract future investments.
The meeting marked another step towards a shared vision for Skåne, one that builds on the region's collective strengths and reinforces its position as a leading research and innovation hub in Sweden and Europe.
