Stand with science on World Health Day
In times of global turmoil, days such as today’s World Health Day are especially important. With “Together for health: Stand with science” as this year’s focus, the WHO calls on governments, scientists, health workers, partners and the public to stand with science to protect lives, rebuild trust and secure a healthier future.
This theme is very much in line with the ambition of Medicon Village, founded in 2012 by the non-profit public foundation "Mats Paulsson’s Foundation for Research, Innovation, and Societal Development". The idea was, and still is, to contribute to new projects focused on important research and innovation that enhance people’s opportunities for a better life. The sustainable ownership model ensures that returns on capital, together with surpluses from activities within Medicon Village, are reinvested in research.
Together with "Mats Paulsson’s Foundation" and "Stefan Paulsson Cancer Foundation", these three foundations established by Mats Paulsson have, since their inception, distributed approximately SEK 293,000,000 to charitable causes aimed at improving health and quality of life. More on the latest Donation Day at Medicon Village, and the 2025 recipients, can be found in this news article on our website.
The World Health Organization (WHO) was founded in 1948, following a proposal in 1945 at the United Nations (UN) conference, where representatives of Brazil and China called for the establishment of an international health organisation and the convening of a conference to draft its constitution. Today, WHO comprises 194 Member States. More on WHO and World Health Day can be found at https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-health-day.
