NLSDays 2024: Shaping the future of Nordic life science
This year’s Nordic Life Science Days (NLSDays) conference gathered more than 1,400 delegates from 30+ countries, providing a platform for thought-provoking discussions on the latest trends and innovations shaping the life science industry. With a strong focus on the Nordic region, the event highlighted the unique challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence in life science, patient-centric product development, and investment in life sciences, which was captured by the presentations and discussions on the main stage.
Some of the key themes that were spotlighted during the Super Sessions include the following:
- The transformative potential of AI in improving patient outcomes and reshaping the life science landscape, and how AI technologies are creating a new frontier for personalised medicine, drug discovery, and healthcare delivery.
- The importance of ensuring that scientific innovations are not only cutting-edge but also accessible to patients. It included a discussion on strategies for aligning product development with patient needs, which highlights the crucial role of patient-centricity in successful commercialisation, and the complexity involved in balancing various stakeholder perspectives on what a patient-centric approach entails.
- The challenges of drawing international investment to the Nordic life science sector, including the opportunities within the region, from university spin-offs to innovative startups, while addressing the gaps that hinder stronger financial backing from global investors.
- How big pharma identifies the next big thing in the sector, the strategies involved in bringing that innovation to market, and how researchers and early-stage start-ups can engage with big pharma in their innovation efforts.
Beyond the sessions, NLSDays provided valuable opportunities for networking with international life science industry representatives that have a keen interest in market and partnering opportunities in the Nordic region, as well as with fellow Nordic stakeholders. During a networking lunch organised by SwedenBIO, Medicon Village Innovation’s Deputy CEO Sarah Lidé had the opportunity to forge connections and explore collaborations with fellow Nordic life science leaders that will help drive innovation and strengthen the Nordic region’s impact on the global stage.
